Song of the Week- Let It Go by Idina Menzel, from Frozen Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Ok, so I am big fan of Disney and their amazing animated films, and so when I went to see their latest animated feature Frozen, I was really excited. The film definitely did not disappoint, featuring a heart-warming story that brought a tear to my eye and bringing new songs into the wonderful Disney music canon. As such a mega fan it is only right that I highlight at least one of the films brilliant musical pieces, and so this week’s song of the week is Let It Go, which is sung by the brilliant Idina Menzel. The song is a lyrical masterpiece that focuses on the idea of letting go of fear and welcoming the power you have in life, and the song lyrically is wonderful in the way that it is intricately entwined with the films story but yet has this heartfelt purity and substance that can make the song transcend beyond the film. Menzel gives a superb vocal performance for the track, allowing her Broadway honed voice to be flexed to great effect and creating an emotive essence to the song that makes it all the more powerful. Production wise the song features a lovely arrangement of piano and strings that builds in a powerful, signature Disney way that makes this a great emotional piece, and if you aren’t a big show tune person there is also a cool Disney pop cover version from the equally awesome Demi Lovato. This is a worthy addition to a list of great Disney songs, showing off Idina Menzel in the best way and just showing the public that Disney animated films are amazing and always will be.
