Song of the Week-
Music to Make Boys Cry by Diana Vickers
Fans of the 2008 X Factor contestant will already like me
have heard this song a long time ago, as the track actually first surfaced
online back in December 2011 in the form of a demo. Yet as the singer gears up
to release her new album of the same name, I wanted to highlight the
awesomeness of this track, as I have found myself falling in love with the
track all over again. As well as this, the track is also mastered a little
differently for its actual release and is even better than the original. The
track itself is a lovely and sophisticated slice of indie pop and synth pop
that was reportedly inspired by Vickers seeing the songs title in a newspaper
article and being inspired to write from this. The track is lyrically very
sweet with a catchy chorus and a message that is all about being empowered and
just loving yourself for yourself, but giving this message in a nice and not in
your face way. The singers distinctive, airy vocals are on fine form within
this track, where she create a great vocal build within the song and brings
this passion to her music that is great for the listener to hear. The tracks production features a steady, soft
bass and glittery synths that create a lovely rhythm to the track which is very
80’s inspired, and gives another dimension to the track that will make you fall
in love with the music. Music to Make Boys Cry is a pure slice of pop
gorgeousness that shows why Diana Vickers is one of the finer and perhaps one
of the best artists to emerge from the UK X Factor, and if this doesn’t become a
UK top 40 hit at the very least then I will be really disappointed.
