Song of the Week January 20th 2014

Song of the Week- Into the Blue, by Kylie Minogue

I am not a fan of songs leaking, and totally understand why many artists get annoyed by it, as it removes the mystery and fun of releasing music. That being said, I have to admit that I am quite pleased that Kylie Minogue’s new track Into the Blue has been leaked just over a week early. This is because in this case the thumping dance pop number is a slice of delicious pop goodness that sees Kylie at her best, and so any leakers can maybe be forgiven, just on this occasion. Serving as the lead single to the artist’s twelfth studio album, Into the Blue is a euphoric dance pop tune that feels like signature Kylie in many ways, but which also feels like a new beginning in other ways. This is mainly down to the songs production, which is just brilliant. Utilising a gorgeous blend of strings and synths with some stomping dance beats, the song just has this immediately attention grabbing, euphoric edge that is forceful but light at the same time and which just makes you want to move around and revel in the singer’s joy. Vocally Kylie is great, using her airy tone to full effect and creating this euphoric, passionate quality that is rich and lovely to hear. Penned by Kelly Sheehan, the track is just as great lyrically, with the singer telling us of how she is putting a smile on her face and just letting go and starting a brilliant new chapter of her life. The song is instantly catchy with a lovely message of positivity, and with the singer being at a prominent turning point in her career, the lyrics feel all the more important and believable. This is just an awesome lead single that is kind of what I expected in some ways, but which totally exceeds my expectations in other ways, and I just can’t wait for her new record this year.
